Hello, what would you like to read from 
the introduction this year? The same old 
spiel about how wonderful we are and 
why BossaNova’s shows are really on the 
money? Ok then, in a nutshell, or rather 
two nutshells, here’s the story:
Earlier this year the BossaNova team 
went through a radical transformation 
where six new people joined, more or less 
outnumbering the existing team. It’s a 
really overused phrase but it’s been a true 
2.0 relaunch of the business, when we 
didn’t feel we needed to.
Did I hear you ask what’s changed? 
Thank you for asking, well, everything, 
and it continues to do so.
The effect of the BossaNova six has been 
radically transforming. Above all a very 
exciting injection of energy, bringing ideas 
from all their previous companies. Their 
ambition and drive, and to paraphrase 
Liam Neeson, a particular set of skills. 
This all catapults into a trajectory where in 
our unscripted space we’re now equipped 
for any challenge and the surge of 
confidence makes us all feel very positive 
about our growth as a business. These 
guys have turned up to be part of a 
success story, let’s not let them down.
Nicely leading on to the launch slate. 
We’ve tried to listen to buyers, launching 
new series, keeping the returning series 
going, with a sprinkling of singles or short 
run standalone specials… 
…RUINS: RISE & FALL allows the view to 
step inside ancient civilisations at the 
height of their powers, brought to life 
with immersive CGI, then showing their 
dramatic falls.
THE LAND THAT MADE US also innovates, 
illustrating in the Alice Roberts-led series 
how the actual land beneath us shapes 
history and how that history shaped the 
modern world. The viewer will fall in love 
with a country that they thought they knew.
Our crime slate has many variables 
reflecting demand out there from the 
way convictions are challenged in 
THE ACCUSED, to a survivor’s story in 
SURVIVING FRED AND ROSE WEST to 
more specials riding on the back of recent 
drama specials, AILEEN WUORNOS and 
LIZZIE BORDEN. AMERICAN SMUGGLERS 
is a new border brand muscling into the 
sub-genre, US Customs battling with the 
cartels and traffickers. As well as BUSTED 
– the untold story of some of the world’s 
biggest drugs busts.
Our returners are returning, the newer 
series STEAM TRAIN DIARIES and CLASSIC 
CAR KINGS are back very quickly for more 
as are BORDERFORCE USA, DOG PATROL, 
MOTORWAY PATROL and BORDER PATROL.
BREAKING NEWS – just pulling into the 
BossaNova parking space is CLASSIC 
CARS FOR CASH the much-loved, hugely 
returning series…all 190 episodes so far.
So as the industry we all work within is 
contracting, diversifying and pivoting, 
BossaNova is doing its best to identify 
the needs of the buyers and go ahead and 
get shows inro production with our own 
investment and the ever-growing ‘coalition 
of the willing’ pre-buyers…as evidenced 
by Development Day on 8th October. We’re 
putting our money where our mouths are.
