The Classic Cars for Cash spin-off series,
following the journey of a vehicle bought at
a Mathewsons classic car auction before
being repaired, restored and re-auctioned.
But can they make a profit?
In each episode the production team eye up
a few likely restoration projects coming up at
the Mathewsons public auction, put their hands
in the air and their own money on the line.
The authentic renovation journey begins as
they source (and pay) professional restorers
to breathe new life into their purchases –
ranging from an early 1950s Land Rover to a
poster pinup ‘80s Lotus Esprit supercar.
And when all the hard work is done, the team
put their car back into the auction and the
drama is real when the auction hammer comes
down. Only then can they do the maths and
find out who the real winners and losers are –
in a classic car deal fuelled by passion.

The picturesque Yorkshire village of Thornton le Dale is home to a unique
family business. For three generations, the Mathewsons have been
turning old classic cars into cash.
Classic Cars for Cash takes viewers into their world – one of passion for
classic cars, nostalgia for the open roads of the past and enthusiasm for
satisfying the often-eccentric tastes of their customers.
The series is based around their vintage 1930s garage on the edge of
the North York Moors National Park.
Its cast are the Mathewson family themselves: dad Derek, auctioneer,
respected expert and master of witty one-liners and his sons Paul and
Dave. Also lending a hand are Derek’s grandsons Charlie and Jack.
A family team who know how to have high-octane fun whilst trying to
turn a profit, travelling the back lanes of Britain in their pick-up trucks.
Every episode takes us on a ride back in time, as they search for
forgotten motors in barns, henhouses and lockups. Their oily voyage
of discovery builds up to auction day where we’re on the podium as
Derek, Dave and Paul hammer down hundreds of cars.
This is accessible history with a Yorkshire accent…
