By this stage, as in writing this, were just in the last throes of preparation for our Development Day, more a production than a simple day, it takes months and months textbeforehand from hardworking colleagues to secure the best 50 projects for the 50+ buyers in the room. Across two businesses this will be the tenth one, oh how it has evolved and continues to do so. Maybe theres a message in there Also at time of writing, weve secured a decent slate of shows to launch this Autumn, sixteen new titles and a bunch of renewals, and weve got our launchpad (a little nod to DAYS THAT SHOCKED THE WORLD) for next year. Weve tried to broaden the offering a little whilst staying true to our core genres but all the time looking at the two main silosimpactful one-to-four-hour docs in one, and franchises in the other. Simple, eh? TITLE With an even broader slate in terms of appeal we feel we can start opening upmore conversations with some of you out there. Whether its celebrity-led(MARTIN COMPSTON LIVING LAS VEGAS, GUY MARTIN: PROPER JOBS,KATIE PIPERS WEEKEND ESCAPE), event-focused (ALPINE TRAIN AT CHRISTMAS, SECRETS OF THE CHRISTMAS MARKET, CHRISTMAS AT LAPLAND UK), our heartland crime (ED GEIN: ORIGINAL PSYCHO, HEIST: ROBBING THE BANK OF ENGLAND), historical factual (ANCIENT AUTOPSY), male-focused/dangerous jobs, especially ones with a particular precious metal involved (RED RIVER GOLD, GOLD WARS DOWN UNDER) and cars (CLASSIC CAR KINGS) we feel were heading in the right direction to add to all of our returners (BORDERFORCE USA, BORDER PATROL, MOTORWAY PATROL). BossaNova launched five years ago, and unsurprisingly MIPCOM 2020 was a pretty quiet GENRE BROADCASTERxxx xxxmarket. In contrast, this years event is a nice way to evaluate ourselves and see how DURATION xxx YEAR OF PRODUCTIONwere doing. Judging by the size, variety and quality of this launch slate Id say pretty xxxgood. But the ultimate test is how and where we exploit the shows of course.
